"GENES ARE GRAND"

Enjoy free general admission all day, part of The Detroit Science Center’s next Ford FREE FunDay. This time it will be all about grandparents! Find out why “Genes are Grand” this Grandparents Day with special activities for the entire family.


 
Highlights include:
  • DNA Spooling and "Passing on your Genes" activities in the Cell Lab and Centennial Lab
     
  • Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan food drive - visitors who make donations of nonperishable food items or cash will receive raffle tickets to win a one-year Science Center membership and 2 tickets to Gleaners' Baker Tilly Presents Iron Chef Competition on Sept. 22. 
  • Nutrition Kitchen demonstrations with Gleaners Food Bank Chef Jake Williams at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. 
  • DTE/WARM training workshops by the PlanIt Home exhibit

 
Ford FREE FunDays offer complimentary museum admission* for visitors (up to 2 adults and 4 children per party) on select dates. Families can enjoy a variety of themed activities and demonstrations throughout Ford FREE FunDays.
 
*Chrysler IMAX® Dome Theatre films, Dassault Systèmes Planetarium shows and Dinosaurs Unearthed admission is $5 for one of these attractions, $8 for two of these attractions and $10 for all three of these attractions on Ford FREE FunDays.

The Detroit Science Center features more than 200 hands-on exhibits that explore space, life and physical science. Highlights include: Rocket Laboratory for a glimpse into space travel, working it off in the new exhibit that stresses the value of fitness and nutrition and walk the Mini Mac Bridge, an 80-foot-long pedestrian bridge modeled after the Mackinac Bridge.

  
While your there check out the new Kids Town. Kids Town features engaging activities organized into a child-scaled “town” where little ones can develop their social and motor skills while exploring the basic science concepts we encounter every day.
